Bomba Summer Theater: Sisko musical play
Bomba Summer Theater: Sisko musical play
The Bomba Summer Theater in Nurmes will host the musical play 'Sisko' in summer 2026, drawing its inspiration from the female characters of Kalevala and Karelian folk traditions. In addition to the summer theater performance, a Kalevala-themed film village, based on the sets of the film 'Kullervo's Story', will open at Bomba for the summer, offering experiential dinner possibilities.
The summer theater musical play, the new Kalevala village, and Bomba's traditional Karelian village together form Bomba into a unique cultural tourism destination alongside well-being and activity holidays.
In the play, Kalevala themes meet the present day
The Sisko musical play, based on the female characters of Kalevala and Karelian folk traditions and songs, takes you on a timeless journey of exploration towards the multifaceted power of womanhood.
The middle of three sisters, Annukka, is getting married this weekend. On the eve of the wedding, the sisters have gathered in the attic of their childhood home to look for ‘something old’ for the bride. The treasures found from their ancestors inspire the sisters to examine their own, very different lives and ask themselves: what do I want?
The play features familiar folk songs and the creators' own compositions, as well as lively dance numbers. The moods vary from melancholic to comical.
The script was written by fellow actors Meeri Sarjasto, Vilja Kaarento, and Saimi Somerto, all of whom also perform in the play. The direction is by Saimi Somerto, for whom this work is her directorial debut. Musicians Jussipekka Jyväsjärvi and Severi Soisalo will also be seen on stage.
Meeri Sarjasto, a pop-jazz singer, actress, and music pedagogue originally from Lieksa, is delighted with the opportunity to vitalize the region's cultural activities through Karelian themes together with her working group.
