Sailing on Lake Pielinen

Embark on a magical sailing experience on Pielinen and step into a new world as soon as the boat leaves the pier. On the water, everyday life is left behind, and we focus only on the gentle rhythm of the boat trip created by the wind, water, and waves.

Your Guide for the Sailing Trip

The boat's skipper is a sailing instructor, and during the trip, you can handle the sails and steer the boat under the guidance of the instructor-skipper if you wish. The journey is relaxed and unhurried, perhaps even joyfully swift with a brisker wind.

Landscapes from a New Perspective

From the water, you'll see the landscape as travelers once saw it when arriving at Koli by ship from Joensuu or Vuonislahti. The hills rise grand and rugged before you, yet gentle and familiar - appearing somewhat new from the water. The atmosphere of the trip is created by the variations in wind, water, and weather. The wind can be brisk or light, the lake restless or mirror-calm – each sailing trip offers its own unique nuance. 

What to bring

Sailing is suitable for everyone – including first-timers who want to safely try sailing or enjoy the vastness of the lake and the quiet sounds of the water. Participation does not require prior knowledge or experience in sailing.

You will need weather-appropriate outdoor clothing. It is good to have a windproof layer on – or at least with you – as it is often cooler on the water than on land, especially in early summer. Shoes should be such that they do not leave dark streaks on the boat deck.

• The boat has life vests for all participants
• Languages Finnish and English
• Parking at the parking lot along Rantatie, from where it's a short walk to the harbor.
• Weather reservation - the wind is not always perfect - with light wind, we will move calmly with the engine.  If the wind exceeds safety limits, the skipper may reschedule the sailing trip, and participants will be offered a new time if possible.
• After booking, you will receive an invitation letter and more detailed instructions on arrival and equipment.
